ABOUT THE ARTIST
Residing in Oakland Township, Michigan, Janet Almstadt-Davison taught art at the high school level for more than thirty years and continues to teach art classes and workshops in retirement. She studied at Olivet College, Oakland University, and Wayne State University. Her award-winning artwork has appeared in professional art exhibitions and collections throughout the country.
Almstadt-Davison works with several different media, including oil paint, pastel, watercolor, acrylic, mixed media, and drawing materials. Her primary goal is to ‘create thought-provoking artwork that captures the essence of the subject’. Her style ranges between realism, expressionism, and abstraction.
“Being an observer of people, I like to interpret how I see them in an abstract contour manner,” says the artist. “Drawing from life, I gesture in the figures quickly with line work and finish the organic figures and geometric background shapes with paint in the studio. I try to show the human quality and emotion of the figures.”
Almstadt-Davison also participates as a presenter with various art groups and as a juror for exhibitions. Her work is featured on the cover of a 2014 book publication, and she continues to participate in solo shows, group shows, and numerous art competitions. People in Plain Sight at the Anton Art Center features a collection of original paintings.
